Purpose of Job
The AU is running the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of Agenda 2063 and is strengthening Results-Based Management (RBM). The M&E Officer will help design, manage, and run M&E systems so leaders can track, evaluate, and report on AU programmes. The post reports to the Senior M&E Officer (P3) and supports culture, systems, and process alignment to RBM across organs and offices.
Main Functions
- Develop and manage strong M&E systems to track performance and impact.
- Support KPIs for strategic initiatives.
- Help departments build and manage the institutional M&E framework.
- Manage results frameworks; ensure they are implemented, monitored, and assessed.
- Improve business processes linked to RBM.
- Review AU M&E frameworks to keep them relevant and effective.
- Share lessons learned across AU institutions.
- Coordinate RBM transition and change management across AU bodies and stakeholders.
Specific Responsibilities
- Work with programme teams and leadership so M&E guides decisions.
- Build staff capacity on methods, tools, and best practice.
- Improve quality via accountability and learning systems.
- Lead monitoring, evaluation, data analysis, reporting across the lifecycle.
- Prepare progress reports.
- Support meetings, seminars, workshops on RBM and OSPD initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with AUC policies and data quality.
- Provide data to support reforms and RBM processes across AU organs.
- Do any other related tasks.
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (Economics, Statistics, Monitoring & Evaluation / Programme Management or related) and 5 years in project management, M&E design, planning, tools, data collection/analysis, and reporting; OR
- Master’s Degree (same fields) and 2 years relevant experience.
- Experience in international/multilateral bodies is an advantage.
- Know quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Tenure of Appointment:
One-year fixed-term; first three months are probation; renewal is possible with funding, performance, and deliverables.
