Episode 3: The Letter in the Pocket That Changed Everything
The morning in Nyamugari was soft and quiet. The sun rose gently behind the hills, warming the sky with orange light. Kevin woke up early again, just like the day before. He sat on his bed and smiled.
His heart was full.
Under his pillow was something small
a folded piece of paper. A letter. He
had written it the night before, right after meeting Aline. It was short but
special. His hand had shaken while writing, but his heart had been sure.
Today, he would give her the letter.
Kevin Walks with Hope
Kevin washed, got dressed, and took
the letter from under the pillow. He placed it carefully in the pocket of his
blue shirt. His fingers touched it again and again as he walked toward the
lake.
The village paths were still empty.
The air was cool. Birds began to sing. Kevin smiled at every sound. Even the
wind felt like it was whispering good luck.
Aline
Was Already There
When Kevin reached the big tree, Aline
was sitting quietly with her sketchbook again. Her bare feet touched the soft
grass, and her eyes were on the lake. She looked peaceful.
She turned and smiled. “Good
morning, Kevin.”
“Good morning,” he said, trying not
to sound too nervous.
“You came early again.”
“So did you.”
She laughed softly. Kevin sat next
to her, just like yesterday. The breeze made the leaves dance above their
heads.
The
Moment of the Letter
“I, uh... I brought something for
you,” Kevin said.
Aline turned to him, curious. “What
is it?”
He pulled the small folded paper
from his pocket and held it out. “Just a little note.”
Aline took it gently, her fingers
brushing his. She opened it slowly and read the words:
Dear Aline,
When I see you, my heart feels warm. I like the way you smile, the way you
draw, the way you speak. You make things feel soft and safe. I think you’re
special.
Your friend,
Kevin
She read it twice. Then she looked
at him.
“Kevin,” she said softly, “No one
has ever written something like this to me.”
“Do you like it?” he asked, his
voice small.
She nodded. “Yes. I love it.”
Aline’s Heart Speaks
Aline carefully folded the letter
and placed it in her sketchbook. “I’m going to keep this forever,” she said.
Kevin looked down, shy but happy. “I
wasn’t sure if I should give it to you.”
“I’m glad you did,” she whispered.
Then they both sat silently,
watching the lake. The silence between them wasn’t empty. It was full of peace,
of feelings, of something growing.
Aline started drawing again.
“What are you drawing now?” Kevin
asked.
“A butterfly,” she smiled. “I feel
like one today. Free.”
Kevin nodded. “I feel that too.”
Sharing
More Than Words
That morning, they talked about more
things songs they liked, dreams they had, funny childhood moments. Kevin told
her about the time he got stuck in a mango tree. Aline laughed and shared how
she once painted her shoes because she didn’t like the color.
They were only beginning, but it
felt like they had known each other for years.
Before they left, Kevin said, “Can I
write you another letter?”
Aline smiled brightly. “Yes. And maybe next time, I’ll draw something just for you.”
Love
Was Whispering Louder
As they walked back, side by side,
Kevin’s heart was light. He didn’t know what would happen tomorrow. But today
had been perfect.
Love had started small like a
whisper. But now, it was becoming a voice, gentle and strong.
And under the tree by the lake in
Nyamugari, a boy and a girl were building something true word by word, smile by
smile, heart by heart.
